At the exclusive ‘House of Instagram’ event in Mumbai, Instagram unveiled two new updates that highlight India’s significance for Meta and expand opportunities for creators to reach wider audiences.
Instagram announced that in the coming months, creators will be able to use Meta AI to translate reels into five new Indian languages, enabling users to discover more content from across India and the world.
In October, Instagram introduced the ability for creators to dub and lip-sync reels to and from English, Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese, helping them connect with global audiences. This capability will soon extend to Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi.
The feature allows creators to use Meta AI to make their reels sound and appear fluent in some of the world’s most spoken languages, helping them grow international audiences. When enabled, the tool preserves the creator’s original voice and tone, ensuring authenticity. The lip-syncing option aligns the translated audio with mouth movements, making it appear as if the creator is speaking the language naturally.
New Indian fonts available on Edits
Creators will also gain access to new Indian fonts on Instagram Edits. These fonts include Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese scripts, supporting languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and Assamese. The update will roll out on Android in the coming days.
To use the new fonts:

Open the editing timeline and select “Text” from the bottom tools tray.

Tap the “Aa” icon to view the list of available fonts.

If the device is set to Devanagari or Bengali-Assamese scripts, the fonts will appear by default. Otherwise, swipe down on the “all fonts” tab to filter fonts by language.
These updates follow several features introduced over the past month to enhance creators’ capabilities. These include the ability to restyle photos and videos in Instagram Stories, make edits using Meta AI, bulk edit captions, reverse videos, apply lip sync to photos, and access 400 additional sound effects.
