In one of its earliest public demonstrations featured in a YouTube video, Yichao ‘Peak’ Ji, Co-Founder and Chief Scientist of Manus AI, introduced the company’s newly launched autonomous general AI agent designed to bridge the gap between idea generation and task execution.

Unlike traditional generative AI tools that stop at suggestions, Manus AI is built to deliver outcomes—executing complex tasks independently, asynchronously, and at scale.

Ji explained that the name Manus AI derives from the MIT motto ‘Mens et Manus’—meaning mind and hand. It embodies the belief that knowledge must be applied to create meaningful impact. According to Ji, this is the promise of Manus AI: to extend human capabilities, amplify impact, and serve as the hand that brings the mind’s vision into reality.

Ji emphasized that Manus AI is not just another chatbot or workflow builder. Instead, it is a truly autonomous agent designed to bridge the gap between conception and execution. While other AI systems generate ideas, Manus AI delivers results. The team views it as a new paradigm in human-machine collaboration and a potential glimpse into artificial general intelligence (AGI).

In one demonstration, Manus AI autonomously unzipped a file containing 10 resumes, browsed each document page by page, and extracted key candidate information. After processing the resumes, it ranked the candidates and provided evaluation criteria. When tasked with producing the results in spreadsheet format, Manus AI adapted quickly, generating the file and learning to provide this format automatically for similar tasks going forward.

The AI then conducted comprehensive research on New York properties by breaking down the complex task into smaller steps: identifying the safest neighborhoods, researching middle schools, writing Python scripts to calculate budget constraints, filtering listings on real estate websites, and compiling a detailed report with the collected information.

Stock correlation analysis with data visualization and web deployment
In another example, Manus AI accessed authoritative data via APIs to perform stock correlation analysis. It validated the data, wrote code for analysis and visualization, created an interactive website to present the results, deployed the site online, and provided a shareable link.

Ji noted that coding is not the ultimate goal for Manus AI but serves as a universal tool to solve problems. The platform’s benchmark scores already demonstrate state-of-the-art performance for general AI assistants.

Manus AI is actively solving real-world problems on freelance platforms like Upwork and Fiverr and has achieved success in Kaggle competitions. The system operates as a multi-agent framework powered by distinct models, with some components—including postering for Manus AI—planned for open source release later in the year.
