Age marks birthdays, milestones and experience, but it was never meant to decide who gets to love whom. Yet many people still raise eyebrows at romances with an age gap. COLORS is set to challenge this thinking with ‘Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar’, a finite romance drama officially adapted from the Korean series ‘Something In The Rain’, which asks why age should matter more than the way someone makes us feel.
At the centre of the story is Preeti Arora (35), a working woman in Delhi who deals with workplace challenges and is constantly asked why she is still unmarried. She has been dating Gaurav Gulati (37) for five years, a man who ticks every conventional box, but his betrayal leaves her questioning everything she thought she wanted.
At her lowest point, Aarav Ahuja (25) enters her life. He is ten years younger, a charming and emotionally mature game developer who has returned to Delhi after studying in the US. He is also Preeti’s former childhood admirer and her sister’s best friend. What begins as an unlikely friendship slowly grows into a love that challenges every rule Preeti has been taught to follow.
Aarav sees her beyond society’s checklist and helps her rediscover herself after years of pressure and expectations. As Preeti deals with workplace politics, parental expectations, social judgment and the fear of starting over at 35, she must decide between the love that looks right and the love that feels right.
Starring Aditi Dev Sharma as Preeti Arora, Daksh Puri as Aarav Ahuja and Kunal Karan Kapoor as Gaurav Gulati, and produced by Pocket Aces, ‘Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar’ premieres on 28th September at 9:30 PM. It will then air every Monday to Friday at 9:30 PM on COLORS and JioHotstar.
Actor Aditi Dev Sharma said, “Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar is my first modern age-gap romance, and what drew me to Preeti is that her biggest battle is with the rules she has been taught to believe in. At 35, society expects a woman to have her life and love figured out, making falling in love – especially with a younger man – feel like breaking an invisible rule.
“Preeti represents many modern women who put their happiness aside because of age and expectations. Her journey is about unlearning these rules and discovering how liberating it can be to choose love and start over at any age,” Sharma added.
Actor Daksh Puri said, “Love may be timeless, but society has always tried to put a number on it. My character Aarav challenges the idea that maturity can be measured in years and believes that love can make magic happen. At 25, he is emotionally mature, understands responsibility and sees Preeti for who she truly is, not her age. His feelings stem from friendship, understanding and genuine connection.
“More importantly, he makes Preeti feel seen and heard for the woman she is, without judging her or trying to define her. He never tries to ‘save’ her – he simply gives her the space to rediscover herself, makes her feel seen and reminds her that she deserves to be understood and valued. Their story is a reminder that sometimes the person society considers ‘too young’ can understand your heart better than anyone else,” Puri added.
Actor Kunal Karan Kapoor said, “Gaurav represents the conventional idea of success – a life built around status, approval and stability. Somewhere along the way, he loses sight of Preeti and begins to see their relationship through what it offers him. His insecurity and need for validation eventually turn into possessiveness when he sees her moving on.
“Through Gaurav, the show explores how society often celebrates ambition in men while expecting women to compromise for stability, and questions whether the obvious choice is always the right one,” Kapoor added.
