Meta has appointed Alex Schultz as its first Chief Data Officer, marking a new leadership role focused on data intelligence, analytics and decision-making in the AI era.
Schultz announced the appointment in a LinkedIn post, stating that he will lead Meta’s data intelligence functions, including data science, data engineering, user research, competitive intelligence, demographic and survey science.
“I’m excited to announce that I’m becoming Meta’s first Chief Data Officer,” Schultz wrote, adding that his focus will be on helping transform how the company learns and makes decisions as artificial intelligence reshapes the demand for insights.
According to Schultz, the new role will span data foundations, AI-powered analytics, experimentation, research and decision-making. He highlighted initiatives such as Analytics Agent, which he described as the most widely used AI agent within Meta, alongside ongoing efforts to modernise the company’s analytics infrastructure.
Schultz also announced that Denise Moreno will succeed him as Chief Marketing Officer. In his post, he credited Moreno with helping drive the promotion of products ranging from smart glasses to Threads and contributing to the company’s e-commerce capabilities over the years.
Based in London, Schultz has spent more than 18 years at Meta, holding a succession of leadership positions across growth marketing, analytics and internationalization. Most recently, he served as vice president of analytics and chief marketing officer from September 2020 to July 2026, overseeing marketing, analytics and internationalization for the company.
Prior to that, he was vice president of analytics, internationalization and growth marketing; director of growth marketing, internationalization and analytics; manager of growth marketing and analytics; and analyst for product and growth marketing. During his tenure, he played a role in scaling Meta’s advertising business, driving user growth initiatives, advancing analytics capabilities and overseeing the company’s external metrics and reporting.
Before joining Meta in 2007, Schultz worked at eBay, where he held marketing roles focused on affiliate marketing, paid search, international coordination and onsite merchandising.
Outside Meta, Schultz serves as a trustee of Wessex Archaeology and as a non-executive director at Lindblad Expeditions. He is also the author of two books, Planes that Fly and Click Here, a digital marketing guide published in 2025.
