Mahesh Shetty to take over as Head of Revenue – Entertainment at JioStar as Ajit Varghese steps down

Ajit Varghese has reportedly stepped down from his role as Head of Revenue, Entertainment at JioStar, marking a significant leadership change at the media and entertainment giant. His exit comes less than a year after taking charge of the position.

According to media reports, Mahesh Shetty will be stepping into the role, expanding his current responsibilities at JioStar. Shetty was in November 2024 appointed as Head of Client Engagement and Cross-Screen Leverage. With more than two decades of experience in media and sales, he previously served as Head of Network Sales at Viacom18, where he was credited with driving advertiser partnerships and business growth.

Varghese had joined JioStar—then operating under the Disney Star brand—from ShareChat and Moj, where he held the position of Chief Commercial Officer. There, he was responsible for leading monetization, marketing initiatives, and content alliances.

Prior to that, he served as Global President of Wavemaker, a WPP media agency, where he managed business operations across more than 50 markets from the firm’s London headquarters. His earlier roles include CEO for Asia Pacific at Maxus (WPP), based in Singapore, and leadership positions at Madison World, Kantar IMRB, and Initiative Universal Media.
