Air India appoints Senjam Raj Sekhar as Global Head of Communications

Air India Limited has appointed senior communications leader Senjam Raj Sekhar as its Global Head of Communications. He announced the development in a LinkedIn post, marking a new chapter in his over two-decade-long career in corporate communications.

Sharing the update, Sekhar wrote: “I am excited to share that I have joined Air India Limited as the Global Head of Communications.”

“Air India is more than just the flag carrier of the country. It is an enduring emblem of India’s glorious aviation heritage. Now, under the stewardship of the Tata Group, the airline is embarking on a transformative journey honouring its rich roots while evolving into a world class global airline with an Indian heart.”

“Stepping into this role at such a defining juncture in Air India’s transformation is an honour and a responsibility that I value deeply. I look forward to working with the exceptional communications team to tell the Air India story as it charts its path to rank among the world’s finest carriers,” he added.

Prior to this, he served as Head – Global Communications at Mobile Premier League (MPL) from 2021 to 2026. In this role, he led global communications for M-League, the platform that houses Mobile Premier League (MPL), GameDuell and Blast+, overseeing reputation management, policy engagement and competitive positioning across six continents.

Earlier, Sekhar was Head of Corporate Communications at Flipkart (2015–2018), where he drove the communication and reputation agenda of the ecommerce major and launched Flipkart Stories.

He has also held senior leadership roles including Director & Head – Group Corporate Communications at Vedanta Resources Limited (2011–2013), where he oversaw global communications for the diversified resources group, and Senior Vice President and Head – Group Corporate Communications at Bharti Enterprises (2005–2011), leading communications across group companies including Bharti Airtel and other ventures.

His earlier stints include Head – Corporate Communications at Samsung Electronics South West Asia, Managing Partner at Burson-Marsteller (Genesis Burson Marsteller), and Account Director at Weber Shandwick, where he managed high-profile mandates and crisis communications.

Sekhar has been named among the 100 most influential corporate communicators globally by The Holmes Report and among the 25 top innovators in Asia Pacific by PRovoke Media. Over the course of his career, he has built and managed brand and corporate reputation programmes across South Asia, the UK, the US and Africa.
