Publicis Groupe is using the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity once again as a platform to address major issues facing the advertising and marketing industry, this year focusing on the growing gap between artificial intelligence-related promises made during pitches and the business outcomes ultimately delivered.
The initiative comes at a time when the industry is experiencing significant disruption, including workforce reductions and broader questions about its future role in an AI-driven landscape. According to Publicis, the rapid rise of artificial intelligence has expanded the divide between what agencies and technology providers claim can be achieved and what can realistically be delivered.
The company argues that this trend has contributed to the commoditization of marketing and communications services, with some commercial offers emphasizing perceived efficiencies and ambitious delivery claims rather than measurable business impact. Publicis said the industry conversation should move away from AI demonstrations and instead focus on proven business results and the value created for clients.
At this year’s Cannes Lions Festival, Publicis plans to present its approach during a flagship session attended by approximately 350 clients and 70 investors. Held under Chatham House rules, the session will feature Gülen Bengi, Global Chief Marketing Officer of Mars Inc., and Shakir Moin, President of Marketing, North America, at The Coca-Cola Company.
The executives will discuss a 12-month transformation journey designed to illustrate how AI-driven ambitions can be translated into tangible business outcomes. Publicis described the session as a transparent examination of the challenges, progress, and results stemming from two major business reviews conducted in 2025.
In addition to the flagship event, Publicis will host more than 60 closed-door sessions with client across five industry sectors. The meetings will showcase case studies intended to demonstrate how the combination of human expertise and intelligent technology can support measurable business growth.
Arthur Sadoun, CEO of Publicis Groupe commented, ” The compound effect of over promising on AI and unsustainable commercial offers in pitches to generate headlines is leading to massive jobs cuts in our industry.
“Collectively, we have to stop this race to the bottom and reaffirm our unique ability to deliver what clients really want: love for their brands, growth they can see, success they can measure.
“That’s why Publicis’ sessions in Cannes will demonstrate that the only pitch promise that counts is business results,” Sadoun added.
