Discovery Communications India appoints Megha Tata MD for South Asia - Mediabrief-1

Discovery Asia Pacific has appointed Megha Tata as Managing Director – South Asia, Discovery Communications India, effective April 01, 2019.  She will be based in Mumbai and report to Simon Robinson, Managing Director, Discovery Asia Pacific and Chief Financial Officer, Discovery International. Megha joins Discovery from Business Television India (BTVI) where she was spearheading the India business.

Megha is a young veteran of the media & entertainment industry who has received multiple industry accolades across a 28-year career.  She has held leadership positions at several eminent broadcasters like Star TV, Turner International, HBO and BTVI.

I look to Megha’s leadership to provide a differentiated strategic direction to Discovery India with twin objectives  of accelerating growth in the core business and strengthening the product portfolio with new offerings in line with the evolving expectations of the market: Simon Robinson, MD – Discovery Asia Pacific, and CFO – International

Aggressively priced: Under TRAI’s New Tariff Order, Discovery India has priced its bouquet at Rs 8 for nine channels in the SD format, and Rs 10 for 9 channels in the HD format. Together, the 9 channels offer perhaps the best infotainment and knowledge bouquet, and believes the new tariff order regime will help Discovery India channels grow significantly. The prices are extremely economical for a bouquet that includes global mind leaders like Discovery World, Animal Planet and TLC, and also includes sports and channels like Discovery Science and Discovery Kids. Under the bouquet pricing, the SD channels average to less than a rupee a month, and there is a very negligible difference in the HD pricing too, which rises to a shade more than Rs 1.10 per channel per month.

Megha Tata joins joins w.e.f. 01 April 2019, but her availability to Discovery Communications India over February and March too would have strengthened it in the NTO launch phase.
