Mahindra has unveiled its latest electric vehicle, the XEV 9S, positioning it as more than just an automobile. The SUV is designed to reflect India’s evolving consumer mindset, where mobility increasingly represents aspiration, identity, and progress rather than merely function.

The XEV 9S was launched at Scream Electric, an event in Bengaluru that highlighted Mahindra’s year-long journey in electric mobility and showcased its expanding INGLO portfolio. The event also celebrated Mahindra Racing’s fourth-place finish in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, underscoring the company’s belief that motorsport is as much about signaling India’s global presence in electric mobility as it is about performance on the track.

According to Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra Automotive Division, the XEV 9S represents a shift in approach: “The future of Indian mobility will belong to brands that reimagine categories, not just electrify vehicles. The XEV 9S marks the beginning of a new electric era for Mahindra, built on scale, purpose, and an understanding of how India moves.”

Built as a born-electric SUV rather than a converted internal combustion model, the XEV 9S offers a three-row layout, spacious cabin, and near-silent performance, designed specifically for Indian families, professionals, and creators seeking more space, comfort, and versatility.

Pratap Bose, Chief Design and Creative Officer, says the design aims to feel like a personal sanctuary while reflecting the pulse of modern India, bridging technology with everyday life.

Mahindra is also shifting the marketing narrative around electric vehicles. Instead of emphasizing eco-responsibility alone, the XEV 9S is positioned as an aspirational electric SUV—“big, bold, stylish, and powered by advanced INGLO architecture,” according to the company—underscoring that electric mobility in India should be a symbol of lifestyle and progress, not a compromise.

With the launch of the XEV 9S, Mahindra is signalling a broader cultural vision: that electric vehicles can represent confidence, ambition, and growth, aligning with India’s emerging identity as a nation ready for its next chapter in mobility.
