Ahead of World Environmental Health Day, Vedanta Group announced the launch of a new campaign #GoodStartsWithUs, focused on commitment to nature-positive growth across its operations. The company will observe Sustainability Month from September 21 onwards, with a month-long initiative that brings together Vedanta’s sustainability efforts across its businesses.
The campaign underscores Vedanta’s commitment to advancing environmental stewardship while driving collective action towards a more sustainable future.
In line with this year’s theme, “Environmental Health: Standing with Science to Protect Communities”, Vedanta has urged its employees to pledge towards environmental health – embedding sustainability into its culture for overall well-being.
Employees will take up one simple sustainability action each week towards reducing energy consumption, conserving water, supporting biodiversity and managing waste responsibly. Across locations, teams will organise plantation drives, clean-up drives and other on-ground environmental activities, enabling employees to participate collectively.
Sustainability Carnivals at different sites will further make sustainability practical and engaging through interactive activities, workshops and DIY (Do it Yourself) initiatives. These will focus on everyday practices such as proper waste segregation, reuse, upcycling and ways to reduce waste.
Additionally, Sustainability Month will bring together learning, engagement and action around four themes – Climate Change & Biodiversity, Waste & Water, Health & Safety, and Community Welfare.
The initiative will showcase and reinforce Vedanta’s sustainability priorities across its businesses, translating its commitment into tangible action and highlighting how responsible practices, innovation and collective efforts can contribute to more sustainable operations, communities and the environment.
The campaign aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land), translating these global priorities into action across its operations.
Across its businesses, Vedanta is leveraging technology, data and scientific assessment to strengthen environmental safeguards, with Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems, ambient monitoring stations and the Enablon ESG platform enabling real-time monitoring and data-led interventions.
At Hindustan Zinc, advanced recovery technologies help recover zinc, lead and silver from residues. A proposed tailings reprocessing plant will process over 86 million tonnes of legacy tailings and recover over 860 kt of zinc, turning historical waste into a resource.
The company is also advancing decarbonisation and resource efficiency, with 20 GW of renewable energy capacity, 28 million tonnes of carbon mitigated over five years and a 14% reduction in GHG emissions intensity from its FY2020-21 baseline.
The Group is also strengthening water stewardship through recycling, rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge and wastewater treatment; in FY2025-26, approximately 90 million kilolitres of water were recycled and nearly 70 community ponds restored, while advanced water-recovery systems at Hindustan Zinc have saved more than 4.2 million cubic metres of water, reducing freshwater dependence and supporting communities around its operations.
As India advances towards its Net Zero emissions goal by 2070, Vedanta, anchored in its larger purpose of #DeshKiZarooratonKeLiye, will continue to integrate environmental stewardship, resource efficiency and community wellbeing into its approach to responsible industrial growth. Through this science-led approach, it aims to support India’s development journey while contributing to a cleaner, more resilient and sustainable future.
