Ormax Media has released its inaugural The India OTT Watchlist report for January-June 2026, offering a comprehensive view of streaming consumption across India through its newly launched Ormax StreamView (OSV) framework. The report tracks long-form content across OTT originals, television programming, theatrical films, sports, news and non-fiction content, providing a broader measure of what audiences are watching on streaming platforms.
Key findings from Ormax Media’s The India OTT Watchlist (Jan-Jun 2026):
Sports dominated OTT consumption, with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 (246 million viewers) and IPL 2026 (228.4 million viewers) emerging as the two most-watched properties across all content categories.
Only two properties crossed the 200-million viewer mark, both being cricket tournaments streamed on JioHotstar.
India’s Got Latent S2 became the biggest entertainment title on OTT, recording 38.5 million viewers across YouTube and Netflix.
Hindi films outperformed web series at the top end, with Dhurandhar (35.2 million viewers) nearly doubling the audience of the most-watched Hindi web series, Made In India: A Titan Story (17.8 million viewers).
JioHotstar emerged as the dominant platform, hosting the majority of the top-ranked sports events, fiction shows, reality shows and several leading films and web series.
Sports was the only category capable of delivering mass audiences above 100 million viewers, underscoring its continued importance for OTT platforms and advertisers.
Made In India: A Titan Story topped the Hindi web-series rankings, followed by Chiraiya and Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web.
Netflix dominated the Hindi film category, with seven of the top 10 Hindi films available exclusively on the platform.
Reality and comedy formats remained strong audience drivers, with titles such as Laughter Chefs S3, The Great Indian Kapil Show S4, Indian Idol S16 and Lock Upp featuring among the most-watched non-sports properties.
Regional-language content continued to gain traction, led by Telugu film The RajaSaab (17.5 million viewers), which was the most-watched non-Hindi Indian film.
International content retained a meaningful audience base, with Off Campus and The Boys S5 leading international web-series consumption in India.
According to the report, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 emerged as the most-watched property on OTT platforms in India during the first half of the year, garnering an estimated 246 million viewers on JioHotstar. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 followed closely with 228.4 million viewers on the platform.
Among entertainment titles, India’s Got Latent S2 ranked third overall with an estimated 38.5 million viewers across YouTube and Netflix, making it the most-watched reality show during the period.
In the films category, Dhurandhar topped the charts with 35.2 million viewers across Netflix and JioHotstar, followed by Dhurandhar: The Revenge with 27.8 million viewers. Tere Ishk Mein secured the third position among Hindi films with 12 million viewers.
In the Hindi web-series segment, Made In India: A Titan Story led with an estimated 17.8 million viewers on Amazon MX Player, ahead of JioHotstar’s Chiraiya (16.3 million) and Netflix’s Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web (14.2 million).
The report also highlighted strong engagement for sports content beyond cricket. The FIFA World Cup 2026 recorded an estimated 17.6 million viewers on ZEE5, ranking eighth among all OTT properties during the six-month period.
Among Hindi GEC fiction series, Naagin S7 emerged as the most-watched title with 11.9 million viewers, while Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah followed with 10.6 million viewers across YouTube and Sony LIV.
The report marks the first edition of Ormax StreamView, which was launched in January 2026 to measure viewership across India’s OTT ecosystem. The framework estimates viewership through weekly primary research conducted among audiences across India and projects findings to the country’s OTT universe. Viewership estimates represent individuals who watched a property for at least 30 minutes and are reported as unduplicated audiences.
