On the final day of Goafest 2023, News18 Network organized a compelling knowledge seminar titled IAA — Voice Of Change on Gender Bias. The event, held at an esteemed venue, brought together a distinguished panel of industry leaders to shed light on the pervasive issue of gender bias and explore ways to foster lasting change in societies worldwide.
Moderated by Megha Tata, CEO of Cosmos Maya India Pvt Ltd, the panel featured prominent figures such as Anupriya Acharya, CEO of Publicis Groupe, South Asia; Kailashnath Adhikari, Business Head of Sri Adhikari Brothers Network; Lata Venkatesh, Executive Editor of CNBC TV 18; and Tarun Katial, Founder & CEO of Coto. The diverse minds present at the seminar aimed to initiate meaningful discussions and provide thought-provoking insights into the multifaceted impact of gender bias.
During the session, Megha Tata began by presenting an intriguing study that examined the realities of women’s representation in advertising. The study’s findings served as a backdrop for the ensuing discussions, which focused on the progress made over the past two decades, as well as the pressing need for increased awareness and education to address the issue effectively.
Anupriya Acharya emphasized the collective sentiment among the panel, stating, “We are clearly not doing enough. While there has been progress, it remains merely the tip of the iceberg. Awareness and education are key factors in driving substantial change.”
Tarun Katial echoed this sentiment, lamenting the harsh stereotyping of women prevalent in society. He provided numerous national and international examples to underscore the seriousness of the issue.
Unanimously, the panel agreed that merit needs to be the driving force and that the change needs to begin at home in the way we teach and treat our children. The panellists also stressed the need to create a future where everyone’s potential knows no boundaries, irrespective of gender. The discussion uncovered the immense potential that lies in questioning established norms, pushing boundaries, and embracing the unconventional.
