Vikram Solar Limited, solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturers, is taking its role as Kolkata Knight Riders’ official Clean Energy Advocate to the next level. This cricket season, the company has committed to solarizing homes across India for every set of six sixes hit by KKR players—turning cricketing moments into a clean energy movement.

The beneficiaries of this solar initiative are being identified through a social media contest hosted by Vikram Solar.

At the core of the campaign is a commitment to both sustainability and community. Vikram Solar recently carried out a tree-planting initiative at its Falta facility in West Bengal. As part of this, twenty-four children—called ‘Sunshine Ambassadors’, aged 6 to 12—planted saplings in honor of each KKR player.

During a special event, these children met the players and handed over personalized certificates. Each certificate contained a unique QR code linked to a tree, enabling the KKR players to track the growth and impact of their tree over time.

This interactive feature is designed to strengthen the connection between environmental action and individual responsibility, using technology as a bridge.

Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chairman and Managing Director, Vikram Solar, said, “These initiatives are about creating a ripple effect that extends far beyond the cricket season. They are about driving change in how we approach energy and the environment. By enabling people to directly engage with environmental initiatives, Vikram Solar is building a bridge between the virtual and real world, pushing the boundaries of traditional sustainability efforts.

“Our vision is of a solar-powered nation. Through these efforts we aim to not only change the way people think about energy but also give back to communities in a way that is impactful, inclusive, and future-forward.

“As Vikram Solar continues to innovate and lead by example, our efforts stand as a testament to the power of collaboration, technology, and community in shaping a brighter, more sustainable future,” Chaudhary added.

Venky Mysore, CEO, Kolkata Knight Riders, said, “Cricket has always been more than just a game for us at KKR—it’s about creating positive impact beyond the boundaries. Our partnership with Vikram Solar represents our shared vision of a sustainable future, where sixes hit by our players now power homes across India.

“The tree planting initiative involving young Sunshine Ambassadors beautifully connects our players with environmental stewardship. We’re proud to collaborate on these innovative efforts that harness the popularity of cricket to drive meaningful environmental and social change,” Mysore said.
