Sugarbox, a hyperlocal data delivery & discovery network, has taken a leap forward by securing a patent for Network Control and Optimization (NCO). This gives a user control over how internet services / Apps use Wi-Fi and cellular data connections on her device. It also enables the user to attach a cost to each network and intelligently use multiple networks based on user’s preferences.
SugarBox has been optimizing the way data is transacted on the internet by installing servers at key places of interest (POIs) where a critical mass of users access internet services and Apps. These servers cache data from partner Apps, based on data consumption patterns and user demographics. This ensures that the App data is available locally for a user to access, thereby reducing the amount of internet bandwidth required, providing an experience guarantee to users and making internet services available, affordable and reliable for all.
“In a world where internet access is becoming a basic need and data is the new oil, SugarBox enables incremental data consumption by consumers, while utilizing minimal internet bandwidth. Over 90% of all data consumption can be attributed to buildings or demarcated spaces (Residential, Commercial, Hospitality, Retail, Education, etc.) and mass transport. SugarBox deploys Edge servers at such key places and consumers can access this data over a local Wi-Fi.
This ensures that consumers get reliable access to Apps and can access unlimited data at these POIs without any cost. The truly disruptive part is that this allows users to continue using their favourite Apps in places without internet connectivity and even empowers users without an internet connection to access Apps. We want to play a pivotal role in making the internet faster, smarter, accessible and contextual for everyone.” said Rohit Paranjpe, CEO and Co-founder, SugarBox Networks.
He further added “The NCO Patent is a huge step in optimizing the data flow on the internet by handing over control to the two key stakeholders – the users and the Apps. NCO will allow the user to set preferences for multiple network usage via App or OS settings.”
